Whispering Hands

Pencil on Paper, Wood panel
70x160x45cm
2022

The pose of holding hands often appears in religious art as a symbol of "desire" and is usually interpreted as an act of asking for something. There are different appearances that appear in each context, such as B. spreading both hands, rubbing them together, holding them together, or slightly overlapping the fingertips when bowing. What are the impressions and effects of this gesture, common but in some respects unique, when presented in isolation from its religious and cultural context?

The hand pose in this work is based on the hand shape that former German Chancellor Angela Merkel adopted as her own symbol during her 16-year tenure.
